Finally On the Road

We left our house at 8:30 this morning and I only wanted to hurt Murr once -- well, okay, twice before we left. After being on the road for only 30 minutes Lindsay asked how much further!!!! I'm going to really get tired of that question I bet. I guess I can always use the duct tape that I brought on her mouth, right?

Picked up the RV around 10:00 and then we had to go to Retama, which was NOT on my itinerary. Murr had gone to Retama yesterday to place his and Daddy's bets so we wouldn't have to do it today. That was a grand idea until he found out this morning that one of the horses they bet on had scratched. So after getting the bets changed and then driving around San Antonio for about 30 minutes (or a quarter tank of gas is how I'm looking at it) because he didn't listen to me and took a wrong turn, we're finally on I-10 heading to Lake Charles!!!!

The RV is okay. You can tell it's a rental. Murr says it drives like a tank. I know it sure as hell rides like one. He's going to drive until 3:30 and then it's my turn. I hope we're through Houston by that time.

Catch ya'll later.

Okay, tech head question here. What are you doing for an Internet connection on the road?

ALLRIGHT! YOU'RE OFF! It doesn't matter how far you get, take your time and enjoy. Do you have reservations at the campgrounds? If so, you can give Lindsey a goal for distance each day, as opposed to the whole distance of 100,000 miles. Fred got out a map, and is going to track your progress each day. He said he was going to call you every evening, to get your coordinates. Live, love, laugh, and enjoy! Annie

Rana, I'm using a Dell Mobile Broadband wireless card. Also, most of the campgrounds that I have picked have WiFi. Other than that, I don't know how I'm getting a signal. I'm so untechy.

I figured you were connecting with a cell card of some sort. I was just curious because when I was working on my dissertation, around 1993, I had to do some traveling to do research, but still needed an Internet connection for email. It was still so primitive then that I had to carry an acoustic coupler as a backup. Basically imagine strapping two old-fashioned telephone handsets together (one the actual phone, one the coupler) and using that to get in and dial to an Internet server. Total bear skins and stone knives.
