Pinewood Derby

In case you didn't know, Pinewood Derbies are no longer just for Boy Bcouts. Last year the Girl Scout Council in our area held the first one and this year Lindsay's Brownie Troop is going to have a few entries! This means I'm trying to frantically finish Lindsay's car before Sunday!

I took out the block of wood and started carving "her" car with one of my sharpest kitchen knives on Sunday evening. Monday night I asked Murr if I could use one of his pocket knives since he has at least 50 or 60. I whittled on that hunk of wood Tuesday afternoon at work until my fingers hurt. That night I inquired if he might not have a sharper knife I could use. His comment was, "Oh, you wanted a sharp knife?" He's lucky I didn't hack away at him with that dull one he had given me. Equipped with a very sharp knife I made good progress on "her" car. Wednesday evening when Murr saw what I was doing, and after I was almost finished with it, he offers to finish it for me. At this point I have a lot of time invested in it and there was no way I was going to turn it over to him because he might not do it right!

I've got it looking sort of like a car. Today I got it sanded down and "we" need to get it primed and painted. Now when I started on this I had the intention of letting Lindsay paint it however she wanted, but the perfectionist in me is screaming, "No, she won't do it right and it won't look pretty." I'm going to do my best to not listen to those inside voices of mine and let her do it, but it is sure going to be hard.

Regardless of who gets to paint it I will post a picture of the finished product. The big race is on Sunday afternoon, and hopefully my -- I mean Lindsay's car will be FAST!

LOL I would be exactly the same way. And girl, you need to get your OWN pocket knife. I never leave the house without mine in my purse.

Can't wait to see the finished product! It had better look like Lindsay painted it--although it would be hard to let go!

Yes, I'm going to let her paint it -- I think. And, Rana, I do have my own pocket knife, but it's just an Old Timer w/ a 2 inch blade that I keep in my purse. I definitely believe it's time for an upgrade!
