I decided a couple of months ago to invest big $$$ in new court reporting software. I was worried that my old software was outdated with new things on the market, and I was worried that my old laptop was about crater at any moment and I'd be left without any options.
When it arrived several weeks ago I was in the midst of planning the RV Road Trip and worrying about Judge Warner. Took it out of the box and played with it for a couple of hours and realized it was going to need more of my time and attention than I had to give at the time.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I knew were going to be slow because Judge Rodriguez decided to take a well earned break. I decided it was time to tackle the new software. Monday morning I started working on setting up my Master Transcript Format since I'd need to have that in place before I could move on to anything else. After a couple of hours of trial and error I was still no where close to it being what it was supposed to look like. I called a fellow reporter in the building who I knew used the same software and she gave me some settings to start with. Another couple of hours later and I was close but no cigar. Decided to give up for the day because I was brain dead.
Tuesday morning after about another hours worth of working on the format I was just one problem away from getting it exactly how I wanted it. And then I fucked it all up to the way it was when I started yesterday. So it was back to the drawing board. By noon I had gotten it back to where I wanted it save and except for that one little thing, which wouldn't have made a difference to anyone who isn't as OCD as I am. I dutifully saved all the settings and about 30 minutes later to take the plunge and try to fix what I conceived as unacceptable. Thankfully I was able to manage to get it changed without messing anything up again. At that point I was done and I switched over to some other tasks that need my attention that didn't involve much thought.
Tomorrow I'll tackle learning more about the new software and how to use it to its potential. Maybe an old dog can learn new tricks.

Ah, how many times I've done that very thing because I wanted to just fix one more, little . . . BAM! I joined the world of Apple users two years ago November. There's no going back once you've seen the Promised Land. ;-)
